Did You Know Comparison Derails Your Focus On God?

The comparison of others is a distraction to what's possible. As a father, I typically compare myself to other fathers to see if I 'measure up'.  And yes I do the same with being a husband. The truth is, it doesn't stop there.  We can easily get distracted by measuring up to everyone else.  We try to reach everyone else's expectations and even our own, but we often fail to bend both knees and ask God what are His expectations. The issue at hand is knowing our identity because without it every step of our journey will be halted. When we compare ourselves, we lose our identity and can not move forward. We never get to settle and root our foundation properly. Like a derailed train we never quite get there.  We are full of potential and cargo (gifts) but we never meet our purpose because we are not submitting to God's will. We aren't only holding ourselves up, but those coming behind us as well.  Our destination is Boston and we end up in New York and we wonder why we are stressed.  Stress comes from comparing our struggle to someone else's success, or life.

Jeremiah 29:11 reads, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."  The word plans there in Hebrew, means 'intentions or means'.  Purpose requires you to make peace with who you are and stop pretending to be who you aren't. God has intentions for us. He takes delight in our significance. The bible in seven words describes God's intentions, which is God restoring His relationship with His people. Hillsong has a song titled, 'Turn your eyes upon Jesus' and that is exactly what we need to do. Look full in His wonderful face and let God speak to you about the person He needs you to be.

Have faith no matter what life throws at you

The examples above are people who despite their current situation, never gave up. Life can be traumatic, fast paced, or simply just difficult. Another example, less than 3 months after my wife and I got married, her legs went numb. Should could not walk under her own power. Here she was a beautiful 24 yr old, riding in a wheelchair to go grocery shopping. We went in for so many tests, it was unfathomable. She could have gone into a depression. However, just like the paralytic [Mat 9:2], the woman with the issue of blood for twelve years [Mat 9:22], and the two blind men following Jesus [Mat 9:29], she decided to HAVE FAITH.

HAVE means to possess, own, or hold.
FAITH means to have the assurance of things we expect and convinces us of the existence of things we cannot see.

She decided to hold on to the assurance that God's promises would hold true, despite the way things looked in the present.

Have faith no matter what life throws at you!

Lead Me Lord

Before you begin your day ask God to order your steps according to HIS plans for you. This is essentially asking for His will to be done on Earth, like in the Lord's Prayer.

When we fail to ask for God to intervene, we fail to fall into position. For example, our daughter loves to help with the dishes, but I don't need her to help with the dishes ... I need her to take a shower. Sofia believes in her heart she is helping, but she is not doing what I need her to do. However, when she asks me for direction I can direct her. The same is for us. God knows the plans for us, but we don't  know his plans.

If we never ask Him to guide us, we are blindly walking a path, instead of walking with His provisions. Wouldn't life be better served with the guidance of a God that seeks to guide you through to His promises?
Order my steps in your word dear Lord. Lead me, guide me every way.  Order my steps in your word.
