Lead Me Lord

Before you begin your day ask God to order your steps according to HIS plans for you. This is essentially asking for His will to be done on Earth, like in the Lord's Prayer.

When we fail to ask for God to intervene, we fail to fall into position. For example, our daughter loves to help with the dishes, but I don't need her to help with the dishes ... I need her to take a shower. Sofia believes in her heart she is helping, but she is not doing what I need her to do. However, when she asks me for direction I can direct her. The same is for us. God knows the plans for us, but we don't  know his plans.

If we never ask Him to guide us, we are blindly walking a path, instead of walking with His provisions. Wouldn't life be better served with the guidance of a God that seeks to guide you through to His promises?
Order my steps in your word dear Lord. Lead me, guide me every way.  Order my steps in your word.

God is my helper

3For strangers have risen against me And violent men have sought my life; They have not set God before them. Selah. 4Behold, God is my helper; The Lord is the sustainer of my soul. 5He will recompense the evil to my foes; Destroy them in Your faithfulness. Ps 54:3-5

After a pause in verse 3, David expresses his exuberance. "THIS is remarkable. God is MY helper. He is here to help and support me." The Psalmist is amazed himself. He is probably thinking, Who is God that is mindful of me (Psalm 8:4)?

In verse 4, "the Lord is the upholder of my life." Samak (saw-mak) is the Greek word for 'sustain', which means to confirm or support, lean, or rest. If we are for God, He is for us, and if He is for us, we do not need to fear our life's problems. Like David, at some point we need to stop trying to do everything ourselves and let The Lord God who desires to uphold our life, do so. Let God, be God. Let God, stand in the midst of battle to defend us, to sustain us like a judge upholds a law. He defends us with honor. Wow! Praise God!

It would be foolish for us to continue to think we can handle our problems on our own. Our situation is nothing new. We are not the first one in debt, the first one with a struggling marriage, or broken home. Which means, God's seen it all. He's the professional's, professional.  It is time we become God's shadow. Let Him walk in front so He can make a path and at the end we can lay down in peace.

Will you do this today? Will you say Father, take my burdens? Take my struggles Lord. Take my situations and my worry. I want to worry no longer because you are with me. I desire to lack nothing. Restore my soul and guide me in the path of righteousness.

If the Lord Had Not ...

Our children will wake up in the middle of the night, petrified, and realize no one present to comfort them. Our youngest will brave the walk across the house and down the stairs to cuddle with mommy and daddy. Either way he is looking for someone to ride this out with him and comfort him for a restful night. At some point in our lives, we have to examine our fears, otherwise it poses the ability to grow and multiply. Deuteronomy 33:26 says, “There is none like God, O Jeshurun, who rides through the heavens to your help, through the skies in his majesty."

Moses is painting a picture of God's ability to be the eternal Refuge and the saving Help for the people of Israel. God's shows His sovereign rule and willingness to help His people. When stress, worry, pain, hurt, trials, and tribulations come about, instead of leaving you to fend for yourself, God desires to ride it out with you. Except you must go to Him like a child. When we retreat to God like an adult we tend to have a certain amount of pride which causes us to rationalize our situation(s), therefore, preventing total surrendering.

When our son comes running across the house, he knows we will respond. He calls for us boldly and loudly in need without any care. He looks for his refuge and strength. Lastly, in Psalm 94:17 after the psalmist had been comforted, he writes, If the Lord had not been my help, my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence."

Do not let your fears silence your way to Victory ... turn to the Rock.

A God That Is Not Remote

Jeremiah 23:23 Am I a God who is only close at hand?" says the LORD. "No, I am far away at the same time. 24"Can a man hide himself in hiding places So I do not see him?" declares the LORD. "Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?" declares the LORD.

God is addressing the lying prophets in this passage, but the same thought process should be aimed at us as well when it comes to being uncomfortable. God is saying, "Am I a God that only sees what happens in heaven? Am I a God that cannot see, hear, and be aware of various persons and things?" Fact is, God was aware of you before you were consummated in your mother's womb (Jeremiah 1:5).

It would be illogical for God to have the Son of God die for our sins and not care enough to be watchful over us. That being said, we would have to be ignorant of who God is to allow the situations we struggle through to break us and not help us get to a deeper level in relationship. When you hide and run away from the uncomfortable, we are stunting our growth and proclaiming God is too remote to aid in our situations. We are proclaiming who God is not.

It's time to stop running away from things that are uncomfortable and difficult. It's time to confront issues in our life. At some point we ha
ve to humble ourselves, realize God is a God that loves from afar and close by and desires to comfort. John 14:1 says, "Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me." Jesus said this to his disciples. When you are feeling stretched the response is not to flee but to cling. Cling to God and let Him come through on His promises. YES, uncomfortable situations are scary, but living daily without God is scarier.

Commit Your Works to the LORD

Proverbs 16:2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight, But the LORD weighs the motives. Commit your works to the LORD And your plans will be established. 4 The LORD has made everything for its own purpose, Even the wicked for the day of evil.

With use of the Hebrew language, let us break down verse 3. Commit is galal (gaw-lal') in Hebrew. It is a primitive root, meaning it is not developed or derived from anything else. It means to roll (literally or figuratively), to commit, roll (away, down, together), run down, trust, or wallow.
When you commit there needs to be a level of trust. When you commit you are secure with your decision. Your mind and soul say YES. When it comes to commitment, there is a willingness, it is something that you believe in. For example, players must make a commitment to play for a full season. A judge commits to uphold the law, because they believe in the justice system.

Verse 3 can be read "TRUST ... whatever actions are being offered to the self-Existing God and YOUR intentions WILL be established.  Look at the word actions (intentions). For most of us, we do not qualify for something unless we are "in the situation". For example, you do not qualify for a promotion unless they see you are doing the work already. There has to be evidence. God says your plans will be established. In Hebrew, plans can be translated as something that you intend to do; a goal, an aim, a desire. God, the Creator said he will establish your intentions. He will make an arrangement if you will simply commit whatever is it you desire to do to Him. The glory of our actions should always be God's. It is not about us.  It is all about Him.

Rely on God as your source. He will honor your trust and arrange success in your purposes.

The Fullness

The three richest people in the world equals $229B in net worth.  Yet, none of them can but the gift of salvation. If we could put a dollar value on the desire God has to have a restored relationship with us, we could not even list a value. It is literally priceless.  Regardless of how good our world may look from our perspective, if God is not the center of it, it is incomplete.

Col 2:9-10 says, 9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.

'The whole fullness' - plḗrōma, (play'-ro-mah) in Greek means abundance or completion.

Our salvation comes with fullness. God has given us a keeping gift. It requires owning, maintaining, and protecting.  For example if someone gave you a gift that you desired you would do your best to take care of that gift you would claim your ownership. you would protect it making sure its not destroyed or used irresponsibly. You would also make sure it's been maintained either by you playing with it or utilizing it or even keeping it clean. When this happens you get the fullness of the gift. You get everything out of what the gift has to offer.

Essentially, the gift of salvation does the same thing. When you receive the gift, own it, maintain it, and protect it you are able to reap the fruits of what God has to offer. You get to claim rule and authority.

Wor·ship

Worship, the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration; paying homage to royalty, is something we must always do as a Christian. True Worship can be seen in John 4:23, "But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

When we cheer for sport teams it is a confession or profession, this is my team. We admit they have our support and in most cases loyalty.  Loyalty never happens unless that 'thing' has your heart. Some of us will, pay our body, tattoo our body, invest in clothing, or other materials to reveal our "worship" of the team we love.

Worship is very similar. True worship is a matter of the heart. It is an acknowledgment God  has our heart and loyalty. It is an attitude admitting God, has our reverence. Our worship is our response to God for what he has already given us. It is also a response to how God has revealed Himself to be in our lives not only who HE is, but who He will reveal to be in the future. Our worship to God is a commitment and acknowledgement of his sovereignty, grace, and mercy.  It is also a confession.

Order My Steps Dear Lord

Psa 119:133 "Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me."

Often times we get trapped in our situations and find ourselves by ourselves. Many times the devil throws roadblocks in our way to deter us from feeling stable in God. When we start to question our stability in God. We start to lose trust or faith. Though the situation looks gloomy, God hasn't changed. When obstacles come our way, it is the perfect time to strengthen our faith.

The word "order" in Hebrew can be translated or replaced with set, prepare, establish, or even direct. The psalmist is saying, "Set my steps, make them firm so there is no halting."  When we try to order our own steps we end up like the first part of Psalms 40:2 where the psalmist writes, He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.  When we find ourselves in these horrible pits, thank God for a Savior. David notes God's favor, which delivers him in his time of need, WITH thankfulness in his praise.

Our horrible pit or miry clay could be discouragement, doubt, depression, fear, or etc. This is when our heart needs to lean instead of holding on. We need to give it to God. When it seems there’s nowhere left to turn, turn to God. We need to stop taking all of the blows and let God "set [our] feet upon a rock, and established [our] goings."

Selah.

Romans 8: Life in the Spirit pt 3

Romans 8:11 "And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, then He who raised Christ from the dead will also bring your mortal bodies to life through His Spirit who lives in you."

Too many times we deny ourselves the idea of being greater.  We tend to tense up at the thought we spiritually possess the power to heal or breakthrough our issues. If we truly knew it we would have a lot less hell in our lives. The thought is natural though, because that is our flesh speaking.  However, if we let the Spirit guide us (by living by the Spirit) we allow God to do everything for us. When we live by the spirit, we are living a life of submission and commission.

There is power in the spirit. The power of God will change our life. It will renew our mind. The blood that was shed for us to bridge the gap between us and God will never lose its power and the same power of God is existing today.

The indwelling Holy Spirit is a guarantee of the redemption of our bodies.  We only have to submit and committ our hearts to God.

Romans 8: Life in the Spirit pt 2

Romans 8:2-4 tells us the law of the Spirit of Life, present at the creation of the world (Gen 1:2), has set us free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. The law of sacrifice was formed in the old testament where animal blood was shed for sins. However, Hebrews 10 tells us despite the sacrifices of bulls and goats, sin remained year after year. Despite the burnt offerings and sin offerings our sinful flesh was never satisfied by form of sacrifice. Therefore, the body of our Lord Yeshua was prepared in likeness of flesh, which carries sin to fulfill the prophesy of Isaiah 53.  Jesus poured out his soul to death and was numbered with our transgressions.  He bore the sin of many and became our Intercessor.

We spend a lot of time pondering over where we messed up in life and beat ourselves up over the sins we struggle to overcome. Until we realize the only solution for our sin is The Solution.  This vital for spiritual growth and maturity. It is through this understanding that we need more of Jesus and we need to die every day.  Understanding the Lamb of God as the FINAL covering of our sins, releases us of the guilt the devil tries to imprint in our mind. Those thoughts of unworthiness should not deter us from coming to Jesus, because his blood deemed us right by law.

Romans 8: Life in the Spirit pt 1

Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Some manuscripts add who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.  The word condemnation, in Greek is katakrima (kat-ak'-ree-mah), which means the sentence of god against sin, a damnatory sentence, an adverse sentence (the verdict).

The Apostle Paul is telling us, for those who have given themselves up inwardly to Yeshua, the Soon Coming King face no penalty of death for the sins we entered the world carrying. Romans 5:16, goes on to tell us the free gift of eternal life is not like the result of one man's sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought a damnatory sentence, BUT the favor with which one receives without any merit of his own makes you justified. The sacrifice of The Lamb has deemed us right. Our salvation, once received becomes law. It gives us rights in the Kingdom of God. Your salvation is what has been established by Jesus Christo. In America citizenship must be validated trough either visa, social security card, birth certificate, or green card.  To enter the kingdom of eternal life our citizenship must be Him. When we have proof of citizenship we receive rights by law.  His blood being shed made an ordinance, an ordained law that we no longer wear the chains of the devil.

The LORD your God is in your midst

Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD your God is in your midst,a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

In other words, Jehovah is present in the inner part of you or among you. He is a Mighty Warrior that will save you and when He does, He will bring you into the joy of a new day. Have you ever gone to sleep joyful knowing the next day brings so much promise? Well this is how God feels. He longs to reestablish a relationship with us and when He does He wants to bring us into a new day and rejoice with loud singing. This reveals a lot of our Lord God's characteristics. Oh how He loves us! The comfort of His love will quiet us. All of the stress and life issues we deal with, God says His love will quiet us.

Our daughter can snuggle up in her bed with her stuffed teddy bear and just sleep like a baby because she is comforted with this teddy bear. Imagine on a greater level, God comforting us and bringing us into His rest.
Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." God will provide peace of conscience, and rest for our souls." Matthew 11:28.

It is so amazing to think about. Let today be the last day you cry your team over your problems and the first day you put your problems in the hand of God and let Him hold you in His rest.

Your love walk includes your attitude.

And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:2.

The word love there is agape (ä-gä'-pā) in Greek, which means, affection, good will, love, benevolence, and brotherly love.  In other words, to walk in love means to be filled with benevolence toward one's fellow brother or sister. Your attitude is your temperament or approach.

If your "good" deeds are done with the wrong mindset, one would perceive your actions as phony.  To walk in love is a mindset, an attitude, and most definitely a lifestyle.  It doesn't make you a push-over. It opens the door for God to use you to love those that are brokenhearted.

Say it, "My love walk includes MY attitude." When we get this down in our hearts we will get mad less and stress less. AMEN. We'll do better in ministry and life.

Slap your comfort zone in the mouth

Slap your comfort zone in the mouth! Yes, that right. This is a lesson that can be learned from either the Prophet Jeremiah or Moses. Mentally they did not feel they were qualified enough to do the work of the Lord. Moses said to God, "Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue."  Jeremiah answered God, "Oh, Lord GOD, I really do not know how to speak well enough for that, for I am too young." Despite this they went on to be great men for God. Why? God pulled them out of their comfort zone.
Most people are afraid of being put out there to face large groups or even lead people. This is the comfort. It is human nature. However, you never get to conquer anything unless you break through that comfort zone. In fact, the devil wants you to stay in the comfort zone. In your comfort zone, you can praise quietly so no one hears you. Quiet enough to no disturb anyone. You can pray a 5 second prayer before someone notices your head is down. In your comfort zone you hold back a little. HOWEVER, if we smack our comfort zone in the mouth, the praise we really need to give God can come out. The praise we really need for our breakthrough will come out.
I believe there are positives in staying in our comfort zone, but there can also be some germination of stagnancy and complacency. Those two words are faith and purpose killers. Slapping your comfort zone in the mouth is a great way to elevate your faith and reach your purpose. Amen!

Take Authority!

Let today be the last day your fears hold you back. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The word slavery in Greek could be replaced with bondage, or the condition of a slave. A little deeper analysis reveals the definition, bondage which consists in decay.

The spirit of slavery is what causes our fear. Ever heard of a 'Slave Mentality'? A 'Slave Mentality' is to be conditioned into a sense of powerlessness which leads to self-defeating thoughts, and behaviors. Depending on what your form of slavery, or bondage is you could be suffering from it as well. For some it is marriage, others finances, others family. We tend to let ideas, situations, and sometimes people hold us back instead of overcoming and conquering like God intended us to do. This failure impacts our thinking and decision-making in negative ways, leaving us susceptible to intense emotions and impulsive reactions. We tend to let our financial burdens, mental, and physical situations dictate our lives. As a result, our bodies begin to decay because it is overworked and instead of doing better, we circle back and live below our privilege.

We are adopted by God therefore we are saved from fear because God has given us control over this earth. He has made us rulers. Top of chain. The head and not the tail. We can do all things through Christ. We ALREADY have victory.

I recommend you pin the confessions below on your wall or bathroom mirror if you can:
  1. I will not let fear or failure dictate my life.
  2. Every element of my day shall cooperate with purpose and destiny.
  3. Today is the dawning of a new day.
  4. My season of frustration and failures is over, and I walk in a season of success and prosperity.
  5. Old things in my life have passed away; all things have become new.
  6. I am a child of God
  7. I am an heir to the Kingdom
  8. I have a heart for God
  9. I operate in all the gifts of the Holy Spirit
  10. I know God’s voice, and I always obey what He tells me.
  11. The love of God is in me.
  12. I do all my work excellently and with great prudence.
  13. I am creative because the Holy Spirit lives in me.
  14. I love to pray.
  15. I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
  16. I will speak with righteousness.
  17. I have humbled myself, and God has exalted me.
  18. I am a tither
  19. I am a giver.
  20. I cast all my care on the Lord for He cares for me.

Keep Your Head Up

Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither has it entered into the heart of man, the things that God has prepared for you!
-1 Cor 2:9

Hold your head up high, and know God is in control he has a perfect plan for your life.

Don't let your struggle be the reason your potential is not met.  Let it become your platform for elevation.  #Holdon, a change is coming.

Poor Mindset

Is your mindset keeping you poor? Remember in school when your teacher would put on your progress report Poor Behavior? It is not just limited to behavior.

Like your behavior, you can also have a poor mindset. A poor mindset is a mind robbed of the goodness of God. How is this possible? Glad you asked. If you continue to believe you are not good enough or you will never make it out of your struggle, then you suffer of a poor mindset.  When this is your thinking, you become deprived of the blessings. You begin cursing yourself, or your situation.
Face your fears knowing that the power within you is greater than anything coming against you.

Changing YOUR thinking will change your perception of your identity. Know who God called you to be. Don't suffer from a poor mindset.

No Paralyzed Faith Here

Don't let your bad memories paralyze you from stepping out of faith. Remember, God's mercy intervened to change your situation(s) around. You are here now! In Acts 14 and 15 we learn of Apostle Paul going through the worst of life's situations and faced opportunities to quit. Instead he fought the good fight of faith to not let these diversions prevent him from pressing forward. We should not either! We get too caught up in our difficulties and not enough in the provisions of God. We should commit to moving forward in faith and overcome the thoughts of dropping out of the race.
The most admired athletes are the ones that endure adversity such as a tragic injury and manage to overcome. They are labeled 'Comeback Player of the Year'.  Likewise, as a Disciple of Christ, the ones the who press forward are the ones that are admired by those in their environment. In order to press forward, you must know who God is to you.  This will propel you to keep the faith. #Amen!  You don't get the award or label, but people ask for your insight on how you can still praise God even after losing a loved one or job, or struggling with your marriage or finances. They want to know "How do you do it?" You become their inspiration. The grace God provides, makes you a living testimony.  Know this, getting through your mess does not disqualify you, it QUALIFIES you.

Be Intentional

For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish it, all who observe it begin to ridicule him, saying, “This man began to build and was not able to finish.”  Luke 15:28-30

It's amazing what you can accomplish when you are intentional about how you spend your time. If you have ever dated someone you can truly relate. As a guy, when you have your eye on a certain female every move is intentional. From the way you dress to the words you same. It should be the same for God. When we intentionally focus our hearts on God, everything should be intentional. Not to impress God, but to gain a deeper relationship. Your prayer time intentions should be to invoke the presence of God. Be intentional!

Let's Get Over the Mountain

If you want to get over a problem, stop talking about it. Your mind affects your mouth, and your mouth affects your mind.

Your words are life and death to your situation.  Keeping a positive perspective will change your internal image of your situation.  This is the beginning stage of revelation.

Trusting God

When you trust God to fulfill the promises He's given you, all the forces of darkness cannot stop God from bringing your dreams to pass.

"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." -Eph 2:10

Restrictions

Restrictions are present for a reason. My wife and I restrict our daughter from watching certain cartoons or staying up too late. These are for her benefit. Well we also have restrictions in our spiritual life. We are required to go through Jesus to get to the Father. One reason for this is to understand the sacrifice of the Lamb of God. Could you imagine, Jesus giving his life for us and instead of showing gratitude we just bypass him and go to the Father? How could you learn to appreciate anything Jesus did if you do not have to honor his actions?

Don't be deceived by Satan thinking the temporal things of this world are more important the the honor and gratitude you express to Jesus. Apostle Paul wrote “I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ” (2 Corinthians 11:3). Satan led her away from the goodness of God. Eve lost sight of the freedom God had given her.

Let us not lose sight of our freedom.

Why Transformation?

Continuing with the thought of being transformed by God, let's take a look at why this is such a crucial part of discipleship.  First, consider the reason one needs to be transformed. We are all sinners saved by grace and born with a spirit that is corruptible.  In order for God to use us for His will we need to be born again, or we need the incorruptible seed, Jesus.  Why is this important? Without God, man cannot and without man, God cannot on Earth.  There is only one way to the Father and that is through Jesus.  No Jesus = No transformation.

Secondly, the other reason for transformation is when you are able to be transformed in your heart, God is able to move you to areas where transformation also needs to happen, to change the environment.  The adversity you are experiencing is because YOU are a change agent.  God's spirit in you, disrupts the atmosphere.  The reality is the place you are in, is conducive to change, you just have to be there long enough for the effects to take place.  His presence brings glory, transformational glory.  2 Corinthians 3:18 says, "And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit." Amen!

Lastly, your transformation is not just about you, your transformation is to help others as well. This is the call of Jesus. This is why you cannot be easily lured out of the environments that shake you up. There is no education like adversity. The devil would love for you to be chased out of a thriving environment, but instead this is how you learn how much you have grown through Christ. This is when you see the mercy and grace. This is when you see the saving power of God.

Let your prayer be that God continues mold you like clay and to use you to bless others with HIS glory.

It's the Seed

Do you remember high school biology or health and wellness education? One thing you should have learned is every human begins as a seed. Let's take a step back. The term sperm is the male reproductive cell and is derived from the Greek word sperma, meaning "seed". Stay with me, these similar types of sperm seeds exist in plants, this is how they reproduce.

Like every seed there needs to be some nurturing and care, otherwise it gets out of hand and grows wildly. Just like as a human being, if your guardian is not there to help grow, develop, and mature you, you can end up with depression, low self esteem, lack of discipline, anger issues, etc.

The same can be said for your spiritual life. Failure to nurture your spiritual life leads you to a faithless faith. 1 John 3:9 says, No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God. When the pure and incorruptible seed of God begins to germinate its grace, your new nature cannot be destroyed, or encouraged by sin. Instead, as your life begins to abide by the word of God, that seed becomes a defense mechanism, or antidote and opposes sin.

Continue to grow in Christ. Continue to read, pray, and fast. You need to develop that seed inside you.  If you aren't, you are tying God's hands. This may be your season to turn the TV off and spend time with the Lord.

Grat·i·tude

Paraphrasing 2 Corinthians 4:14-15, Jesus died on the cross and God resurrected him for the sake of His lost children. And as God's grace reaches more and more people, through you, they will become thankful to God, therefore giving Him all the glory.

That word thankfulness or gratitude in Greek is eucharistia (yoo-khar-is-tee'-ah), which means "the giving of thanks for God's grace." This is the same origin of the word, Eucharist, or better known as the "Lord's Supper", "Table of the Lord". This is the moment to pray to God and announce our thankfulness to God for providing the food on our table.

What does this all mean? Well, its that same gratitude, or thankfulness of the heart towards God that you reveal, which leads those to praise Him. In other words, when you truly appreciate what God has done for you, the revelation in your spirit causes you to make your life about Him. This same revelation causes you to appreciate those things that are unseen more than the things that are seen revealing the glory of God. This powerful glory of God attracts people. When those attracted to the glory receive their revelation, there will be an undoubted thankfulness for God's grace.

So continue to praise God in advance. Do not be afraid to reveal what God has done for you.  Don't shy away from saying your grace in public. You cannot keep your blessings to yourself. Nor should you keep your testimonies to yourself. Your breakthrough is quite possibly what someone else needs.

Who Told You?

19 But when Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite servant and Geshem the Arab heard of it, they jeered at us and despised us and said, “What is this thing that you are doing? Are you rebelling against the king?” 20 Then I replied to them, “The God of heaven will make us prosper, and we his servants will arise and build, but you have no portion or right or claim in Jerusalem.” Nehemiah 2:20 ESV

Growing up we've thought about being dentists, lawyers, athletes, doctors, coaches, etc. Then at some point we get exposed to people that want to mock our ambitions and cheer for our failures. This is a cold world. At some point your lose those ambitions and goals. You start to have a seed of self doubt.

My question to you is ... WHO TOLD YOU? Who told you, you were too short, too tall, not smart enough, too big, too skinny? Who told you this? Who told you, you cannot make, you won't make it? Who told you you were too dark or too white? Who told you, you would be a failure?

The God of heaven, He will prosper us. The God we serve, and under whose protection we are, who will supply us with everything we want, and succeed this undertaking, in whose name we engage in it, and on. The God whom we depend on, will provide in spite of all opposition, difficulties, and discouragements. So do not care what man says to hinder your ambitions.

God for your dreams, but be WILLING to SUBMIT and TRUST in The Lord!

Being Offended

The bible teaches us to turn the other cheek and to forgive 70 x 7. One thing to consider is offenses will happen, however staying offended  becomes a distraction, or blockage. If you are always offended your heart is not right and if your heart is not right God cannot use you to do His will. This is why it is important for Christians to have depth in their understand of who God is and who they are in Christ. If you know what God says concerning you, then you are least likely to be offended. When you know who God says you are, you have the confidence to not be concerned with what people think of you.  Fruitful people are not easily offended because they have made peace with the imperfections.  The people that tend to be offended are the same ones that lack purpose.  They will "overdramatize" an offense to disrupt your focus.

Don't let this be you. If it is, repent to God and find your purpose (your love, the activity that puts a smile on your face.) and get that activity more involved in your life.

You've come too far

You have come too far to give up on your dreams.  Do not let your past interfere with what God has for you. Decide to pick up whatever dreams you had. Whether to write a book, go back to school, lose weight, read a book of the bible. Starting over doesn't make you a failure. Giving up does. There are some things to come that have not yet appeared to you, because you have not made a move to get that thing going. Like a seed if you never tend to it, it won't grow.  Well same holds true with your dreams, it will wither away without the proper care and attention.  Find your strength in Jesus, get up and make a move forward.

Keep on being filled with the spirit.

"Keep on being filled with the spirit." ( Ephesians 5:18)

If we refuse to do that -or neglect to do that- we are not in danger of being cast away eternally, but we are in danger of being set aside as an instrument God cannot use. -Vernon Grounds, Radical Commitment: Getting Serious About Christian Growth

Being filled with the spirit allows God to produce the Fruits of the Spirit in your life. It is like like Raj Koothrappali from The Big Bang Theory. After many sips he now has courage, well we as Christians should not get drunk with wine but of the spirit.  When you allow this to happen you experience the same boldness and joy as the early church. The courage nd the power. The same fruits needed to be UNASHAMED of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.

I will never be the same

There is a song writer who wrote:

I will never be the same, Not after being with you
I came here sick, but when I leave I'll be healed, Cause I'm changing
I came here broke, but when I leave I'll be rich, Cause I'm changing

Let this be our confession today family. Make it the cry of your heart to NEVER be the same. Take your situation and turn it around. You can fill in the words, but I got you started. Let the spirit guide you.

I came here lost, but when I leave I'll be found ...
I came here stressed, but when I leave here I'll be refreshed ...
I came here a sinner, but I leave here forgiven ...
I came here worried, but I leave here hopeful ...
I came here damaged, but I leave here restored ...

Do not be satisfied where you are. Receive your potential. You are not what your situations say about you. May you be the fruits of the spirit ... May you be Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-control (Gal 5:22-23). May they not just be your fruits, but be you. We have been so conformed to this world we forget to think out side the box. There is a Syracuse University Professor Sam Van Aken, the proud father of a single tree that grows 40 types of fruit. You can be that tree that has all of these fruits of your life. The tree contains 40 varieties of peaches, apricots, cherries, nectarines and European plums that date back to the 17th and 18th century. The tree of life; it's the beginning of a story. May your fruits no longer be lust, anger, depression, sadness, jealousy, disease, or fear. You can have your liberty back and never be bound again. Whom the Son sets Free is Free indeed (John 8:36). Where the Spirit is there's Liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17) Be FREE.

Just like that tree, may you bear good fruits that provide growth in your life. May you never be the same. May you never, NEVER be bound again. May your hope, or image of your situation begin to change. Jesus is Alive and through Christ's power we can change the atmosphere.

All hail the power of Jesus' name.

Let God be God

Many times as Christians we fear change and the unexpected. The main reason is we are not in control.  The #TRUTH is that is the better ball field, at least when you are playing on God's turf.  When we relinquish control to God, He is able to do miraculous wonders. When we decide we want to force life to happen for us it almost all of the time goes poorly. It's similar to my daughter when she wants to prepare her own meal.  Thinking she knows everything she ends up adding water to her eggs instead of milk. The  key to this is submission. When you submit your entire life to God you get out of the way, allowing God to be God.

#DISCIPLESHIP

Who is God to you?

Let the image of who God is for you be what manifests your miracle. It is a blessing God cannot have an image of himself, because it means He gets to be whatever we need Him to be in our situation.  So, if you serve an almighty God trust that He brings victory to yiur situation. If you serve a God limited to the confines of mediocrity, then He cannot move mountains.

But GREAT IS OUR LORD, AND ABUNDANT IN POWER GREAT; HIS UNDERSTANDING IS BEYOND MEASURE.
Psalms 147:5

A New Heart and Spirit

…25"Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. 26"Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27"I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances

The word heart refers to the inner man; the mind will; heart. God wants to put in you a new principle of life. Your will is wonderful, but the Father's will, is refreshing and filled with new purposes and resolutions.

May this be our prayer today. May you commit to God so He may fill you with a tender and responsive heart. A heart that forgives. A heart that is obedient and submissive to His Will and authority. May you be renewed by the Spirit and grace of God.

The Hellen Johnson Story

Hellen Johnson’s welfare check of only $120. per week was feeding her family of 6 people. When the check got lost in the mail they had nothing for two days, and were starving. When she entered a Dollar General store she was desperate, and intended to steal something to eat. The eggs she tried to steal broke in her pocket, and were dripping through her clothes. The police were called, and she was busted before she could even attempt to escape. Honest people usually make lousy thieves, and Hellen has even admitted she is not a good thief! It turned out getting caught would be one of the best things that ever happened to her! It is amazing how God can turn even the worst situation around and he did.

The officer who showed up knew she had no prior record, lived in poverty, and was not stealing for gain, but for the survival of her family and self. He showed the greatest compassion by not kicking this woman when she was down, but in buying her the eggs, and then bringing her a truckload of food the next day. In shock, she showed gratitude through the roof! The fact he helped, instead of judged is awesome. He did hold her accountable, and made her promise never to do that again. He has made a huge difference in this woman’s life.

We all know there are a lot of instances where there has been brutality by police officers, and that is never, ever acceptable. But it is also important to remember every human is an individual, a different person, with different values, and beliefs, and we should never judge all people as the same, that is wrong! If he had done that she could have been sitting in a jail charged, with a criminal record, in an unending cycle of poverty, that would just continue on down the family line. Instead he and others are helping her get on her feet, and move forward. There is a saying that, “many hands, makes little work,” and it is so true. If we all did just a little to help others, a lot of starvation, and homelessness would be eliminated. If we all did something small everyday, that could really add up in huge ways.

We know it is better to give than receive, ask yourself, how could you bless a single mother, father, or elderly person, or just a neighbor? How about the poor? This is the true work of ministry ... taking care of others ... loving your neighbor as you would love yourself.

Matthew 19:19 "honor your father and mother,' and 'love your neighbor as yourself.'"
Matthew 22:38 "This is the great and foremost commandment. 39"The second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.'
Galatians 5:14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."

Don't Worry

Do Not Worry
26"If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why do you worry about other matters? 27"Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 28"But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you? You men of little faith!…

Christ largely insisted upon this caution not to give way to disquieting, perplexing cares, Mt 6:25-34. This is our encouragement to cast our care upon God, which is the right way to get ease. Being eager and anxious for the things of this world, even necessary things, will even damage the spirit of a disciple of Christ. Fear cannot prevail when we put needless cares upon ourselves upon needless. We must avoid this. How? When we value the beauty of God's holiness, we will not crave the luxuries of life. Look at it this way. Christ is our Master, and we are his servants, not only working servants, but waiting servants. We must be as men that wait for their lord, that sit up while he stays out late, to be ready to receive him. Another picture would be to be ready, as ready as the good man of the house would be, if he knew at what hour the thief would come.

Growth in Faith

There is a scene from the movie The Dark Knight Rises - the Prison Escape. The place they call "Hell on Earth".  It is a place where prisoners learn about despair.  Everyone that has ventured there over the centuries has looked up to the light and imagined climbing to freedom.  So easy ... So simple, but like shipwrecked men turning to sea water from uncontrollable thirst, many have died.

The escape requires a prisoner to make a significant leap across rocks to get out. Long story short, Wayne does endless push-ups, squats, and stretches. Let me take you through the dialogue

BLIND PRISONER: He says the leap to freedom is not about strength.
WAYNE: My body makes the jump.
BLIND PRISONER: Survival is the spirit. The soul.
WAYNE: My soul's as ready to escape as my body.
BLIND PRISONER: Fear is why you fail.  How can you move faster than possible? Fight longer than possible? If not from the most powerful impulse of the spirit. The will to survive.

Wayne believes he has what it takes to survive the jump, but the truth is, what is needed is not conditioning or muscles, but faith..  See there was a little girl that made it out of the prison well, she did it unconventionally. She took the rope off risking all she had to get out.  We need to do the same as well. There is no time for contentment.. God wants us to grow. So there will be many seasons where God has required us to leap into our faith with no rope, simply because our faith needs growth. If God is always coddling us, then we would never learn how to grow in faith.

What prison do you need to climb out of to grow in faith?

Discipleship: an inward and outward commitment

We can easily this work with a lot of hurt. Whether white or black, Haitian, or African we can all agree there needs to be a change some place. There are 3 scriptures I want to look at that will help give us a characterization of how we can help.

John 8:31 - So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,-

John 13:34 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35"By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

John 15:8 - "By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples."

So, if we hold on to the teachings of Christ, we will learn how to love like Jesus loves, and in return we will bear fruit.  This is not just an inward acceptance in the heart, but it is a commitment on the outside.  It is going to take action to do this. So after your heart says, "Yes, I want to follow Jesus." There needs to be some changes in your life as you get closer to him. This my friends is fruit. Your life starts changing. This is the fruit of the words of God. This is what people see. That fact someone can be rude to you and you decide to love them anyway.  This is a combination of inward and outward commitment because what you do in front of people is nothing if you are not living the same life at home behind closed doors. (Matthew 6:5-7).  So if we are going to change this world it is going to require more than peace rally's, riots, and protests.  It is going to take the reconciliation of man back to God. This is why we need to be about Our Father's business over everything else in life. It is time we commit to:

1) abiding in God's word,
2) loving others, and
3) bearing fruit to show you are a disciple of Jesus

Creation is Limited

In Jeremiah chapter 1 we learn of the young prophet's call to be a prophet of the Jews and neighboring nations.

When confronted Jeremiah tells the Lord God, "Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth.”  Not only does Jeremiah admit that due to his young age he could not have enough wisdom to prophesy to the nations, but it reveals the fallibility of creation and no work of the Lord is possible without our Lord God.

I believe this was a humbling situation. When creation fails to satisfy your heart, it's not a tragedy, it's grace. God's teaching you that what you seek can only be found in him.

Isaiah 40:28-31

ESV Isaiah 40:28-31
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.  Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted;  but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Regardless of what you think is going to give you renewed energy in this world ... always remember YOUR strength comes from the Lord God Almighty.  Your job or profession may have you down and you want to quit ... WAIT ON THE LORD.  You may be tired of your marriage  and ready to give up... WAIT ON THE LORD. Your family may be pulling on your last nerve and you're about 30s from cutting them off, WAIT ON THE LORD. Wait on the  Lord so HE can renew your strength. We all fall down and need to get up not give up. Giving up is not the answer whether physically, spiritually, mentally, or socially.  None of our lives were close to what Jesus experienced and if God never permitted him to give up, why would he want the same from you. Especially when he gave his only son for you. Remember the devil wants you isolated so he can pluck you out like a deer in an open field.

However, God's word says, "Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable." He understands everything you are going through. Before you go weary in your own thinking, wait for the Lord to renew your strength.

Identity

My family has a 6yr old labrabull (Labrador / Pitbull mix). He's VERY energetic. When we first got him we were a little apprehensive. He was a1 yr old, 35 lb stranger.  We were transitioning him with Sofia, our beautiful daughter, and one evening she happened to be walking by him while he was playing with a dog bone. He nipped her and I couldn’t wrestle him to the ground fast enough. I have to admit, it was almost his last night either in our house or on Earth.

That was 5 years ago. Now, we have RJ, and it is nothing for RJ to go in Dante's doggie bowl while eating and pick at his food. Why? When Dante was younger, I wrestled that thought out of him.  Danteunderstandshis hierarchy.

Spiritually speaking, we need to do the same. We need to stop harboring behaviors, attitudes, and mindsets that are in opposition of what God says.  We must learn to defeat those thoughts and behaviors before they take root in our hearts. This is how the mindset gets lost, we allow feelings, problems, insecurities, depressions, to sit and develop.  This is no way to live. When these contraries start popping up we need to take complete control and show who's  in charge. Flex your identity.

Sacrifice

Sacrifice: something that is not natural to give; voluntarily releasing something, doing something you would not normally do, not instinctive; an act of slaughtering an animal or person or surrendering a possession as an offering to God

When we look at Luke 5:27-28 …
27 After this he went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax booth. And he said to him, “Follow me.” 28 And leaving everything, he rose and followed him.

Matthew had a decision to make.  He had to determine if he was going to sacrifice his life and deny himself, or keep his  post where he collected taxes from those exporting and importing goods through Capernaum. This could not have been an easy decision. Matthew will have to sacrifice his reputation, comfort, his life, and his job. The bible says,  And leaving everything, he rose and followed him.

Sacrifice, is a tough concept. The fact you must sacrifice YOUR desires, your kids, your spouse, job, time, money, etc. Well, in Jeremiah 29, God warns to understand what seems wrong, or different by Him, it is actually for good.

There are 2 big pictures here. This is like a double feature presentation ...

1) Don't think your situation is so off that God cannot help you.
2) Despite your inadequacy God offers opportunities of reconciliation to get your life in order.

Despite us being inadequate He does not disassociate from us. Instead He shows grace mercy, and sovereignty.

Colossians 3:23

23Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

My personal study time has been primarily dedicated to studying servant hood and discipleship. In the beginning my biggest struggle was serving people. Ever notice how children pick up on the word "mine". We have to teach our children how to share, we have to teach our youth how to be considerate or conscious of others. This is because in our culture selfishness is taught and idolized. We have selfies and selfie sticks.  We let everything everyone says dictate our attitude. Why? Because it is all about us.

However, this is what makes things interesting. God wants us to understand, it takes a sacrifice to spread the Great Commission and to change this world. "...with all your heart" can be defined as the human soul, life, self, or the vital breath of life.  When you give your soul to serve it is not to any human being ... it is to honor the gift inside them. The gift that God has formed inside. This is a sacrifice ... a willing sacrifice. Meaning this is done out of pure Godly love.  Truly serving is not done forcibly, or out of necessity, there is no murmurs, just from the heart with good intentions.  So serve with all of your heart and because of your sacrifice the God will will reward you.  Truth be told you can turn around a sour relationship by serving each other. Identify a person in your life that would benefit from being served and watch God move in both your lives.

Jeremiah 29:11

Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
In this text The Lord God, is using the prophet Jeremiah to tell those that have been exiled to not be afraid of God's promise to restore them to the land, but to understand what seems wrong, or different it is actually for good.

I am guilty of this for sure. Sometimes when you are in a place where you don't really belong, but you've been there for so long you get so comfortable. You put up curtains and blinds, instead of those Walmart shades. You make it cozy ... moving furniture around for a better look.  We know we don't belong, but we're going to do our best to make it work.  This is what we FEEL we need to do because as human beings we cannot stand change.  Here is another look at it. We put billions of dollars in educational systems, because we feel we know what we want to do in life. We decide what career we want to have and make critical life decisions based off of these dreams that we feel defines us. We switch careers and move across the globe, because we think we know what it is we need to be doing.

We ASSUME all of this! The reality is God wants to restore you to where you need to be. We need to understand ONLY God operates under certainty.  Only God knows where we need to be. Like those in exile, not all adhered to the word of God.  When we let our own wisdom directs us, we tend to be lead to believe we know more, or better than God.  What really needs to happen is we need to submit to God's provision. We need to submit to his promise to restore fortunes, or put us in our proper place.

Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do !

Satan seeks to defeat you by tempting you to trust your own wisdom, to live according to your self-centered feelings and to gratify your flesh. This is what our society and culture promotes. The "Do You!" or "You Only Live Once" - "YOLO" mentality.  It preaches do whatever makes you feel happy. Lean on the infallible word of God.

Proverbs 4:7 says, Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.
I want to pick out 2 phrases:
  • The wisest thing ... meaning the most excellent of all possessions.
  • Whatever else ... meaning even with the price of all things, even though it may cause you to lose of all which you have.
So let's put it this way, obtaining wisdom is the greatest thing you could ever obtain, use that wisdom to make wise choices.

Have you ever heard of people that don't learn from their mistakes? We have the friend that just keeps dating the wrong guys and won't get the hint. The family member that just can't seem to get out of their own way?

These my friends are examples of not taking the wisdom and using it for good judgment.

Don't lean on your own understanding. Lean on God's word. It is always relevant.

The Sword of the Gospel

34"Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35"For I came to SET A MAN AGAINST HIS FATHER, AND A DAUGHTER AGAINST HER MOTHER, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AGAINST HER MOTHER-IN-LAW;
Matthew 10:34-35

The setting of the story is the Jews were under the impression the Messiah was going to come and deliver an internal and external peace. However, Jesus deemed it fit to let them know the contrary. Our world has an awful perception of peace. Jesus was coming to preach the word of God which would cause division amongst families. Isn't this what we see in many families now?

When I first studied this verse I was confused. Why would a man of peace use a sword on his people? Well, first the peace Jesus is talking about is transliterated as eiréné (i-ray'-nay), which means peace of mind, invocation of peace a common Jewish farewell, in the Hebraistic sense of the health (welfare) of an individual. This is not what Jesus is bringing. Jesus is bringing machaira (makh'-ahee-rah). Machaira in Greek means figuratively an instrument for exacting retribution. Jesus is bringing division. Why? Good question. Jesus wants to bring the word of God and reclaim what was God's in the beginning - a personal relationship with God's children.  Jesus is separating the people of Christ from the men of the world, from their principles, practices, and any other relation of discord, and persecution arising from it. This is the only way to inherit the Kingdom of God.

Are Your Dreams Dying or Thriving?

Make sure your atmosphere is conducive to your dreams. There are places that dreams go to die and there are places where dreams go to thrive. Scotty Scott (@BishopRonScott)

Proverbs says, "Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble." (Proverbs 13:20) It is time to evaluate those in your life.  This seems harsh, but at some point, if you continue to let the friends that are not contributing to your growth in Christ, deter you from Christ, you are headed down the wrong path.

In English it is easy to misunderstand the 2 uses of the word wise. In Hebrew, 'with wise' and 'men shall be wise' are slightly different. The first 'with wise', is referring to intellect, skill, and articulation.
The form of 'men shall be wise', refers to the teaching of wisdom, to make yourself new, or make wiser. In other words, the scripture is saying:
Surround yourself with people that have more skill, or intellect than yourself, so the wisdom you learn can be retaught.
A perfect example is, when growing up, my dad made me play basketball with the men and not the boys.  My height was similar, but developed skill, game IQ, and strength were not there. They were better, and in some aspects, smarter. In high school, I had the opportunity to practice with a US Top 5 sprinter and he made me better as I pushed to compete. The point is, it is always encouraged that you play with someone better than you.  This affords you an opportunity to enhance your skills, or talents, through learning, resulting in an improved version of yourself. Surround yourself with Christians that can sharpen you. As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. (Proverbs 27:17)

El Sali

God knows how deal with your weaknesses, so don't let them deter you from establishing a relationship with Christ. -Raymond D. Mills Sr.

Our cultures feeds off of identifying people's weaknesses and using that to capitalize for their personal gain.  We live in a world, where bullies thrive on another person's weakness and purposefully exploits that person to the point of suicide or murder.  Our society uses these weaknesses to push young children and adult females into sex trafficking, or human trafficking.

Your flesh is going to want to cave to the weaknesses about you. Your flesh is going to reject it, but The Lord God doesn’t want you to be miserable. He wants you to be strong in Him. This is why He is The Rock.  The Rock in Hebrew is El Sali (Sa-Lee, which means God of my STRENGTH). The same rock in Ps 42:9, to God my rock, and Ps 71:3, For You are my rock and my fortress.  Whenever we watch movies where people are caught in fast moving bodies of water, what is the first thing on their mind? Something to catch them. Something to cling to that will save them. Like, a sturdy and strong rock! It is a life preserver.  It saves them from drowning, and rescues them from danger.  No one is more durable than our God. No one has the ability to consistently catch us when we need it most and for sure no one is as mighty.  Make the most of this season of life, because you serve a God that is strong and invincible.

You must have love for yourself.

Examine your heart to discern why we do the things we do, not to just correct our behavior but to get to healing. Jesus will being clarity to those situations and remove the hurt. We can no longer live our lives without self-reconciliation.

You must have love for yourself.

Selfishness is weakness.

Selfishness is weakness. But loving and caring for others is a position of power beyond anything we can possibly imagine.

16 At my first defense no one supported me, but all deserted me; may it not be counted against them. 17 But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fully accomplished, and that all the Gentiles might hear; and I was rescued out of the lion's mouth. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom; to Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen. - 2 Timothy 4:17

Breaking this down, the ONE true God, put strength in Apostle Paul to continue to proclaim the Gospel. At this time, Rome was the capital of the Gentile world, so a proclamation of the truth to the Romans was likely to go forth to the rest of the Gentile world.  I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion - namely, Satan, the roaring, devouring lion (Lu 22:31; 1Pe 5:8). We are talking about deliverance from evil, the evil one, temptation, fear, and denying his Lord.

At some point in our lives we are going to feel the struggle is real to be a Christian and we just may not be about that life. Doubt and fear comes in and overtakes your confidence. I'm keeping it real here, because we really know how to put on that we have it together.  I'm not sure who in this world really does. Nonetheless, my temptations are real and humble me daily.  I am thankful for the fact, God still pursues me and stands with me and puts strength in me. Daily, I want to give up. I said the struggle is real.  However it is imperative for us to NEVER GIVE UP!  When you GIVE UP, you surrender, but not to God. When you surrender in the Good Fight, you are surrendering to Satan. Giving up, reveals the battle is not worth it. It reveals you are giving up on Jesus. Let's be real, Jesus knows the deal. He went through it.  The world has not changed that much.  However, we need to realize, God will pursue you with power and glory.  Like with Apostle Paul, His unstoppable love, is a love that will never end.  He has an unrelenting passion with mercy.  Continue to stand firm and proclaim the Gospel.

A Vision of Love

I must admit, I do not know the compete context of this picture, but the actions taking place speaks to my heart. This is love. The bible tells us the only debt we should carry is that of love. (Rom 13:9)

Owe nothing to anyone--except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God's law. Matthew Henry's commentary puts it this way, "He that loves his neighbor as himself, will desire the welfare of his neighbor. On this is built that golden rule, of doing as we would be done by. Love is a living, active principle of obedience to the whole law. Let us not only avoid injuries to the persons, connections, property, and characters of men; but do no kind or degree of evil to any man, and study to be useful in every station of life."

Attitude Barometer

"Most attitudes are formed as we grow up. Teachers, ministers, parents, etc. all influence our attitude. Once an attitude is formed, it’s pretty much the way a person will think about any subject. We vote, select a spouse, pick an automobile and raise our children based on that attitude. Our attitude about our job, the product or service we produce, and about our leaders influence the quality of our work." - Jim Smith, Quality Magazine

Phillipians 2:2-4
2make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. 3Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;4do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, meaning do not be self-seeking. Why? This is the very thing that determines ones motives before God. Your thoughts and actions should be geared toward pleasing God. The verse goes on to say with humility of mind, in other words, have humble actions or don't be so prideful, or boastful about what you are doing. Instead, regard one another as more important than yourselves. I know I could not believe it was written either. Apostle Paul is saying to put the well-being of others, before yourself. He is saying be unselfish. Be more concerned with someone else other than yourself.  We can all agree the world needs more of this. Amen? This will bless you as well, because it will keep you from being envious and only seeking God's approval (Gal. 5:26).  We are to honor one another in brotherly love. This is not the biological love, but brother (or sister) in Christ.

So when you put your heart on God, you can afford to put other's needs above yours because your approval comes from God. Not what the world says you need to have.  Truth be told, those new Jordan's won't save your life.  Nor will that new wardrobe, house, car, job, or fill in the blank.

Think, who's life can you bless to reveal the glory of Jesus? There has to be someone. There is someone.

God is the Strength of My Heart

Practicing Forgiveness

I received two tweets back to back and I thought it was a perfect word.

#Forgiveness isn't for the other person; it's for you. #ExploreGod @exploregod

At some point it has to go from being highlighted in your Bible to being written on your heart @DeannaFarley

True forgiveness means there is no bitterness in your heart for the other person.  We are asked to be the salt of the earth. The value of salt value back in the day could be used as currency.  It was also a method for healing and soothing.  If you add a pinch of salt to many desserts, the salt both heightens flavor and creates contrast.  My in laws being true coffee drinkers know just as well, salt will also eliminate coffee’s bitterness.

At some point we must start to truly practice forgiveness. When we truly practice love, we have the opportunity to change the flavor of our bitter situations.  Be the salt of the Earth.

Keeping Honesty and Integrity

"Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us." (Titus 2:6-8)

This passage gives some practical reasons and ways to live out our faith. Though these words were written to Titus (a leader in the early church) they apply to anyone! We should: be self controlled; serious about life, do good deeds as often as possible to set an example for others, love the truth, think before we speak!!! Why should we do these things?! Because we represent God, who is HOLY! We are an example to others! OUR behavior will SILENCE our critics!! “God, let your light shine through us, let it not be our own words, God, that stream from our mouths, Lord, but yours!”

Don't Hide Your Scars.

It is understandable to hide all of your scars in life,  but let me encourage you to be comfortable sharing them. It is important to change your perspective of your scars because they are proof to you and everyone else that GOD HEALS! Your overcoming testimony is what provides hope in n the natural to those that don't have a spiritual relationship with the Father.

Amen.

Who is God to YOU?

We almost have 6 months in the books and God has shown me so much grace it is unbelievable. My faith, love,  and passion for Christ have grown. I can say the way I feel now is the fruit of the seedlings that were planted.

In the beginning of the year I spoke about personal relationships with God the Father. Just as your physical father may have played a certain role in your life, the same exists for Jehovah.

This year He has been Jehovah Shalom ( God as our COMFORTER) when RJ was always sick and couldn't hear or speak well.  I was so mad at myself for RJ's struggles, but I prayed and God consoled me.  Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).  It's actually amazing how it all works, because in consoling me, my faith rose. Philippians 4:19 says, And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Hallelujah! Jehovah Jireh (God as our PROVIDER).  I put my burdens on the one who actually controls the changing of things and he made it happen.

We have to stop carrying around all of this weight. I'm not talking physical. Life is not meant to be sitting around feeling sorry for ourselves or others. At some point you need to let The COMFORTER,  ease your pains and soothe your worries.  Let God be your security blanket! He, as a loving father, provides of His children! God as our HEALER (Jehovah Rapha) of Mind, Body & Soul! God will COMFORT, PROVIDE & HEAL His children!!! Call Him by Name!

Loving the Irresponsible

The bible says life is like a vapor, a mist.  It is short, and you never know the time or hour when you will pass. Life is all about love. Galatians 5:14 says For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

One of the toughest things to do is love someone who is irresponsible, or not responsible with the love you give them. Let me explain. I love my wife, obviously. I continously am in love with my wife because she has been responsible with receiving my love. She hasn't told me she doesn't love me or cheated on me. She has infact shown me love in return.  Now that's the easy part. Loving someone when everything is all good. What am I going to do if she is no longer being responsible with my love?

If I am made in God's image I am created to act like God, therefore I must display God's agape love and love UNCONDITIONALLY.  We all have those types of people in our lives that take advantage of our friendship, or love.

I want to encourage you if there is something holding you back from Christ, life is too short, forgive now. Especially if you have children, because children learn grace and its meaning from their parents.  We all know this world needs nothing more than Jesus and his love.Learn to extend grace, as Jesus extended his grace to you. Let's be more loving today.

Do you need a heart transplant?

Proverbs 4:23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Another version says Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life. 24 Put  away from you a deceitful mouth And put devious speech far from you.…

Above all things that have to be guarded, keep or guard your heart. In Hebrew, for it determines the course is translated totsaah (to-tsaw-aw'), which means exit, geographical boundary, or deliverance, source. In other words, as is a man's heart, so is his state of mind. The matters, or issues of life that you let eat at you will consume you, and eventually become your outward expression.

What we think in our heart and mind, we eventually say to others. He is telling us to constantly guard our heart and watch it closely with what we allow to enter into it, because it is the source of life for one's being, both physically and spiritually. The heart is the place - the spiritual soil in which a seed or seeds are planted in. They then sprout and grow until they produce fruit, whether it is good or bad. This is why you must guard your heart. If the heart is pure, your life will be pure; if the heart is corrupt, your life will be corrupt. In comparison, Mathew 15:19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts--murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. The thoughts of sin are evil and are to be hated. All wicked imaginations, carnal reasoning, lustful desires, and malicious schemes, are included. It is clearly written, these acts of sinful behavior begin and are constructed in the heart of a corrupted being. Every time the Bible defines what it means to be an authentic Christian, it speaks in the language of heart. It's about the heart!

The heart in the first verse is compared with a fountain. If you were to supply that fountain filthy, murky water, that is what comes out. Conversely, if you were to provide purified spring water, your output would be the same pure water. It is similar to the phrase garbage in = garbage out. The key here is to put your mind on the things of God and His scripture will act as a filter, not allowing any wounds or hurts and anything else to cause a seed to plant. Keep focused on the things above not giving anything a chance or a place to grow to create any physical or spiritual problems in our lives.
